Who Owns Baccarat Hotel New York? Lawrence Dunn, October 30, 2023October 30, 2023 The famed crystal company dazzled even the most jaded traveler when it opened its first hotel in New York City in 2015. Now, just over two and a half years later, Baccarat Hotel New York continues to shine just as bright as its parent company, with unflinchingly glamorous public spaces, subtly luxurious guest rooms, and splashy bars. The 114-room hospitality haven on West 53rd Street is owned by Sunshine Insurance Group and Starwood Capital, with management by SH Hotels & Resorts. Its authentic design reflects the brand’s posh Parisian roots with a contemporary take on NYC chic, including 17 handcrafted crystal chandeliers and curated works of art from its storied 250-year history. Designed by the Paris-based design firm Gilles & Boissier, the hotel’s public areas, spa, and 114 guestrooms and suites are executed in a strikingly elegant style, influenced by the refinement and intimacy of early 1900’s French grand townhouses. From the opulent lobby with its 38-meter high crystal curtain to the guest rooms, whose bathrooms feature a mirrored vanity and a tub that opens to the sky, the hotel’s design embodies the precision and perfection of Baccarat’s legendary crystal. In the hotel’s restaurant and bar, Decca manufactured custom benches and tables from smoked oak solid wood and veneers to match the refined look of the space. For the bar, the designers drew inspiration from American long bars and French ballrooms for a space that is both inviting and sophisticated. The hotel’s bespoke case goods, meanwhile, are made of smoked Oak and rich Gum Tree Eucalyptus veneer, with brass details and ebony accents. The designers also commissioned 11 remarkable artists to create artworks inspired by Baccarat’s Harcourt glass, which is featured in dramatic vitrines throughout the property. These works of art adorn the walls in each hallway as well as the rooms, with one unique piece in every room. A visit to the hotel also includes access to the brand’s onsite boutique, which features 15,000 pieces of crystal stemware and bedazzled furniture, plus the opportunity to purchase Baccarat products. Guests also get free use of the hotel’s house car for trips within 15 blocks of the property. With just one Baccarat hotel open worldwide, the chain is already considering bringing its ultra-luxe brand to Australia. In a recent interview with the Australian Financial Review, SH Hotels CEO Raul Leal said his team has been “talking to some local developers” about the potential for a Baccarat hotel in Sydney. With an eye toward the future, Leal said his company was exploring other locations as well. “We see a lot of opportunities to grow globally,” he said. “I think we will be able to do several more in the next five or six years.” Those could include locations outside of Asia and North America, including Europe and the Middle East. The hotel is also looking at potential opportunities in the United Arab Emirates, Mexico, and South Africa. Main
